Here are my thoughts for the week.
Michigan and J.J. McCarthy
We've all seen the stats, and we all watched the game. From now on, McCarthy has to be the starter with no questions about it. Cade McNamara played an essential role in the re-emergence of the program, but to keep going forward, the Wolverines must play McCarthy. The guy can throw the ball. This year's weak schedule can prepare the program for a more significant season next year. If the Wolverines can get back to the College Football Playoff and create another great recruiting class, the Wolverines might be able to compete for the National Title. We could follow in the footsteps of Clemson.
Tigers and Spencer Torkelson
Torkelson has played well since returning to the Majors on September 2. Tork has hit .265 in that stretch. Even when he is getting out, he's making better contact with the ball and striking out less. Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, and Ryank Kreidler have also played well in September. The reality is the problem with this team is the timeline. General manager Al Avila went all in, and it was a mistake. Javier Baez doesn't fit this team's timeline. The Tigers should focus on developing talent and rebuilding the farm system. Not all the veterans need to go. Eric Haase, Willi Castro, and Harold Castro have played well enough to return next season.
The Lions
I didn't get to watch the Lions this week. The fact that the NFL doesn't have an app accessible to all fans to pick which games they want to watch, like the NBA and MLB, is ridiculous. I want to watch the games I want to watch. The NFL is the most prominent product in all of sports. Why can't they figure this out? I heard D'Andre Swift played well, the defense struggled, and Jared Goff "ain't the guy."
