I'm not sure what could top this present we are receiving from the sports gods. I've been blessed over the past year. The Michigan Wolverines beat the Buckeyes and won the Big Ten Title. I had my doubts, but it happened. The Pistons drafted Cade Cunningham. To be entirely honest, I thought we would screw that up and draft someone else. Matthew Stafford won the Super Bowl with the Rams. He always deserved more success than Detroit could offer. It's been fun. So, here is a list of some other ideas that could compete with Blue Devils versus Tar Heels in the Final Four.
The Detroit Lions in the Super Bowl. (Come on!?)
Michigan versus Ohio State in the College Football National Championship. (This one could actually happen)
Building a time machine and convincing the Pistons to draft Dwayne Wade.
Only a few ideas come to mind for me. Perhaps, this time, let's work together.
As a Lions fan, A Super Bowl takes the top of the list. This is almost unfair. With the years of compounded misery, Lions fans should be able to convince the entire country to cheer with them if this were to ever happen. Of course, the state of Michigan would be plunged into some sort of Mad Max-type situation if it ever did happen, so maybe it is for the best. I know that I myself would go absolutely insane for such an event. Alternatively, maybe all of the negative energy being purged from Lions fans would cause a chain reaction that leads to world peace. With all of our bitterness gone, the world would be a better place.
Wolverines versus the Buckeyes would be an incredible matchup in the College Football National Championship. It isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. Right? Maybe someday? This would be the highest-rated sporting event in television history, I could guarantee that much. It's the greatest rivalry in sports and would be amazing for sports fans to watch. This one is quite similar to what we are getting with Duke versus UNC.
I had to include a silly one! If the Pistons had drafted Dwayne Wade, I'm convinced the win more than one title during the Goin' to Work run. Imagine that three-guard rotation with Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton. I know there are lots of chemistry concerns and whatnot, but Dwayne Wade wanted to win. He would have fit right in with the Pistons. Chris Bosh probably fits a need better, but the Pistons may not have traded for Rasheed Wallace if they had drafted Bosh. So, in this fantasy, everyone works out for the best.
So, I had a never-going-to-happen, a sort-of possible, and a fantasy sports scenario. What would you have on your list?
