Is Tom Brady Immortal?

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

Sports are back and so is Tom Brady. Tom Brady has led Tampa Bay to a 4-2 start. A few outings ago, he threw for 369 yards and 5 touchdowns. After the rough start against New Orleans, which, by the way, is excusable because of the lack of time to prepare with a new team, Brady has taken off. Through six games he has thrown for over 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns. Admittedly, he hasn't thrown for gaudy numbers over the past few games but Tampa Bay is on an upward trajectory.

Why this is ridiculous

I know Tampa Bay hasn't played the best opponents, but Father Time should have a greater effect than it has. Also, wasn't the going theory that Tom Brady would fall apart without Bill Belichek? I think New England achieved that unprecedented success because combining an all-time great coach with an all-time great quarterback is a recipe for all-time great achievements. Brady is, of course, older than ever, and no longer has Belichek to guide him to success. In fact, New England is struggling out of the gate and the Bucs just crushed the Green Bay Packers.

So, how is he doing all of this?

We've never seen Brady with so many offensive talents: Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, Scott Miller, O.J. Howard, Ronald Jones, LeSean McCoy, Justin Watson, and Leonard Fournette. These guys are going to be fantastic this year. Could they dethrone the Saints and win the division? I think it's entirely possible. It's even more likely because Tom Brady is an immortal football god. His success defies all logic. This quality of defying common football logic is what both irritates and fascinates football fans. Don't get it twisted. I don't believe Brady is about to have an MVP season. He's not. He could, however, be the missing piece to a 7-9 team whose previous quarterback threw 30 interceptions. There will be growing pains, but I'll take my chances on Brady if they get themselves into the playoffs.

In Brady's mind, he's still the underdog.

His underdog mentality is hilarious though! It would be like the 92 Dream Team claiming to be the underdog after their performance in the Olympics. What left did they have to prove? What else can Brady have to prove? I think I mentioned the last two mountains he has left to climb. Brady is going to try to beat father time and prove that he had an equal contribution to the Patriots dynasty. He doesn't even have to win another Super Bowl. If he can put together a Probowl level season and take the Buccaneers to the playoffs, he'll have proved his point. I really believe that. If he, somehow, wins another SuperBowl, the conversation about the greatest of all-time should be over. Well, it should be over until either Mahomes or someone like him stands the test of time. In a way, he is the underdog now. At age 43, he has more haters than any other NFL player. Normally, we love to see swan songs. Most fans don't want to listen to his, but Brady may well make us.
