The SEC is trash
Sorry, but they were responsible for the majority of the upsets. I've traditionally not thought a lot of the SEC in basketball, but this year I thought maybe I had been wrong or that they had improved. The trick is that they play against each other so much that we were led to believe that they were just staunch defensive teams. As it turns out, it only appeared as good defenses but the issues arose from horrifically inefficient offenses.
The ACC's down years are better than most conferences' good years.
People have discussed this season as a down year for the ACC, but they still ended up with three of the final sixteen spots. Duke, North Carolina, and Miami look good. Notre Dame performed well, too.
The Big 12 is underrated in basketball
The Big 12 delivered this weekend. While Baylor fell, the Big 12 still produced three of the final sixteen teams as well. They had some other teams lose in dog fights as well. The Big 12 is a basketball conference. They play good defense and run disciplined offenses.
The March Madness commercials are superior to Super Bowl commercials.
The commercials were amazing. I give particular plaudits to the AT&T commercials with Coach K, Matthew Stafford, and a plethora of other celebrities. I enjoyed that the commercials were a celebration of the event and sold products that normal people can buy. I can get AT&T. I can't afford an electric car.
Coaching matters most
Sorry, but a team's talent level is nothing next to a good coach. The teams that went into stalls too early blew big leads. The teams with poor shot selection and sloppy half-court play went home. A good case study in this observation is the Tennessee versus Michigan matchup. The Vols went into a stall and started jacking up 3s while the Wolverines continued to play disciplined half-court basketball. Poor shot selection is equal to a turnover. This effect is doubled when it is a quick shot. Good coaching can get a team deeper into the tourney.
