1. Evil
Evil is awesome. It's 13 episodes of awesome. It's got it's scary parts, but it's also a very entertaining narrative. It's full of interesting characters and toes the line between science and the supernatural. Plus, Mike Colter gets the opportunity to act in vulnerable positions. Find on Netflix or CBS App
2. Hubie Halloween
If you like Adam Sandler's movies, you'll enjoy this. If not, then I'd suggest you skip it. It's very reliant on silly gags and cringe-humor. It's fun to have the more silly Halloween stuff, too. Find on Netflix
3. The Invitation
This one is a lot of fun. It's more of a psychological horror film. What I mean is that it's not jump scares. The condition of being a human and the lengths that people will go to escape that torment is what's frightening. Find on Netflix
4. Dark Skies
Blumhouse always produces fun scripts. While this isn't as popular or well-received as other Blumhouse films (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, or Get out), it's still very entertaining. Either way, check out Blumhouse for Halloween fun this year. Find on Netflix
5. As Above So Below
This is another one that wasn't well-received, but we enjoyed the Hell out of it. Are you a dork? Do demon movies freak you out? Did you ever hope that halfway through National Treasure the cast would be swallowed by a Hellmouth? Well, this one's for you. Find on Netflix
6. Identity
This is a who-dun-it to rival Agatha Christie. It's not super scary or anything, but it is more of a darker murder-mystery. There is a twist towards the end. You'll either like or hate it, but the movie is enjoyable before that in any case. Find on Amazon Prime
7. Cabin in the Woods
This is my favorite horror film. I absolutely love it. I watch it every year. It's different, silly, and celebrates the genre. Have at it. Find on Amazon Prime
8. The Omen
Take a dive into a classic horror film and watch an old man attempt infanticide. There's a reason that the movie was popular. Some of the imagery is scary, but the scariest part is the way people dressed. The musical score is done by Jerry Goldsmith, earning him his only Oscar. Find on Amazon Prime
9. Hocus Pocus
For something a bit lighter, you can't go wrong with this one. We all grew up watching this and it's fun to rewatch now and notice how horrible the special effects are. More importantly, we get to listen to "I Put a Spell on You" performed by Bette Midler. Side note, check out all of the different versions of that song on Spotify or Youtube. The song has been performed in a bunch of different ways. I, personally, enjoy the newest version by the Jaded Hearts Club. Find on Disney Plus
10. Over the Garden Wall
I'm not even sure how'd you'd access this, but it's so much fun. You've all probably, at the very least, seen a meme from it. It may be an animated series, but it has some horrifically terrifying elements. Elijah Wood, Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry, and John Cleese contribute their voice work. The whole thing is right around an hour and you can celebrate Halloween in the weirdest of ways. Google search says: Find on Hulu
11. The Witch/The Lighthouse/Hereditary
We watched these three last year and really enjoyed them. Robert Eggers and Ari Aster are two of the biggest up and comers in the "what the f*@# is happening horror genre. Each film gets crazier as it goes; so, enjoy your trip down the rabbit hole. Also, the performances in these three are incredible. We'll be watching Midsommar soon. Find on Netflix and Amazon Prime.
12. Jennifer's Body
This is the "out of left-field quirky millennial humor mixed with horror" film. What is it about? I shouldn't even explain. Just watch it. Find on Netflix
13. Little Evil
Let's end this Halloween with some comedy. This is a very funny parody of The Omen. Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly raise a demon-child and comedy happens all over the place. Find on Netflix
